Citizenship

Citizenship possessed by Americans is often taken for granted. Citizenship is the state of being a citizen of one community. Citizens carry both rights and responsibilities. Citizenship is an act of bettering your community through economic participation, public service, volunteer work, and other efforts to improve live.

A person that is born in the United States is automatically a citizen. There is also a process of naturalization that must be followed in order to become a citizen. The process of naturalization usually is only available to people who are at least eighteen, a lawful permanent resident of the United States, have at least been there for five years, and have good moral character. You must fill out many documents and have them turned it in. You have fee's that need to be paid and you must also be fingerprinted. The next step would be an interview and test. Finally you take the Oath of Allegiance.

I sat in on a Bradford County School Board Meeting. This is a part of being a citizen. Education in a community is very important and sitting in on this I learned a lot of information. They discussed a lot of issues that our community faces. Our new principle proposed ideas that acknowledged not only athletic achievement but also academic achievement. Energy crisis was addressed and ideas to fix it. The meeting was very organized and consistency was very important during this meeting. This ties into my pole as a citizen because not only as a student should I participate in these meetings, but as a citizen. Staying informed is so important.
